The Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa says the first doses of Coronavirus vaccine could be available in Spain ‘by the end of December’ this year. Spain has agreed with the European Commission to participate in the plan to purchase up to 400m doses for EU countries from the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, as soon as the vaccine is confirmed to be safe and effective.

Spanish fishing boats are landing only a tenth of their normal summer catch of octopus, an unheard of drop. Since the 1st July they have caught 38 tonnes of octopus, compared with a normal average of 378 tonnes over the same period. Fishermen’s associations believe meteorological and environmental factors must be involved and that it can’t all be down to overfishing.
