European Commission proposes to limit validity of covid passport to 9 months for travel

The European Commission (EC) proposed this Thursday to limit the validity of the covid passport to nine months and to continue to respect the measures aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus, including the use of masks, in the face of the increase in contagion.

The European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, explained the details of the new Brussels recommendations on travel within the European Union (EU). In addition, he assessed the usefulness of this digital covid certificate and indicated that Brussels “proposes to extend it beyond next summer as a measure to facilitate free movement safely”.

In Spain there are several autonomous communities that are applying for the covid passport to do certain activities, for example, in the hospitality industry.

It is compulsory in Aragon, Galicia, Navarre, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. The Superior Court is studying it in La Rioja. Castile and Leon, Andalusia, Murciaand the Valencian Community.

Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Asturias, Cantabria or the Basque Country are against this measure, where its use was rejected by the judges.
