The lava covers 992 hectares of the Aridane Valley by the volcano of La Palma. Houses, farms, industrial warehouses and banana trees have been destroyed. Much of the Aridane Valley is a ghost area covered in ash since the eruption began in La Palma.
Since 19 September, residents have been unable to access the exclusion zone thanks to barriers that delimit the area by the eruption of the volcano.
More than 7,000 inhabitants of the area were evacuated from their homes and more than 2,000 buildings devastated. This is what has happened in the last 50 days since the volcano erupted.
Of these people, 2,000 are directly affected by having their residence within the perimeter of the volcano. Of these 2,000, 1,576 are residents of Los Llanos de Aridane, 391 of El Paso and 122 are residents of the municipality of Tazacorte.
The Copernicus satellite records that lava has covered 992 hectares since the eruption began and has so far affected or destroyed 2,719 buildings and infrastructure.
It’s 50 days of uncertainty, fear and hope for a population that just waits for the end so they can get their home and life back where they left off.
