SPAIN was said to be “creeping” back towards a level of Covid-19 considered to be an “extreme risk” according to statistics.

The countrywide figures show the 14-day cumulative number has risen to more than 174 of cases per 100,000 people – used as a benchmark, experts rule that the 250 threshold signifies the extreme risk barrier.

The central health ministry in Madrid ruled the new growth in infections is “sustained and gradually gaining pace”.

The regions of Madrid, the Basque Country, Navarre, and the north African enclaves of Melilla and Cueta have already exceeded 250 infections per 100,000 residents.

And there is a rising number of cases being diagnosed across the country. The ministry said 8.18% of coronavirus tests came back positive at the end of last week, compared to 6.84% seven days earlier.
