The incidence of coronavirus in the Marina Alta continues to rise. The trend noted in the previous two weeks is confirmed, and the curve continues to grow. Which is worrying. With the latest data update made by the Health Ministry on Tuesday, the index of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants rises from 110.05 to 115.87.

It is not a very pronounced increase, but it is already the fifth consecutive update in which the incidence of active cases in the region is growing. And just a fortnight ago, that 14-day cumulative incidence rate was well below 78.61. There is no longer any doubt that the trend has been reversed and the curve has picked up. It does so, moreover, at the gates of the critical dates of Christmas. On the days indicated, the maximum number of people allowed in a meeting will be increased from 6 to 10. And also the reunion of relatives and relatives coming from other autonomous communities. There will therefore be more mobility, more family encounters and more numerous. A cocktail that can be explosive.

The fact is that at this critical moment many inhabitants of the region arrive in an epidemic situation. In fact, almost 35,000 people live in municipalities with a red or high incidence (more than 150 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants), according to the risk evaluation established by the Ministry of Health.

In addition, another 22,725 (of those registered in Calp) have an incidence of 149.61. That is, just 39 hundredths of being also at high risk. It can therefore be said that more than 55,000 inhabitants of the region are at or around this high risk.

It should be remembered that the ministry’s system establishes five levels of risk: Normality (less than 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants); low (from 25 to 50); medium (from 50 to 150); high (from 150 to 250) and extreme (more than 250).
