Valencian Community wants to impose curfew ‘before Halloween’

The Generalitat will ask Spain’s central government today for permission to implement a 12am – 5am curfew before Halloween.

The government of the Valencian Community (Generalitat) has prepared a proposal for Pedro Sanchez’s approval following record-breaking COVID-19 infections.

On Monday, the Valencian region broke its own records after recording 1,318 infections in a 24-hour period – higher than any update since the start of the pandemic.

The curfew will be in effect from 12am to 5am each day, according to a scoop from Valencian daily Las Provincias.

The measures are designed to halt new outbreaks, especially from nightlife and ‘botellon‘ street parties.

One of the parties the Generalitat fear could cause spikes in infections is Halloween, just 10 days away.

The Valencian president, Ximo Puig, met with health councillor Ana Barceló yesterday evening. They will make their request to the central government today.

The government believe economic activity will not be greatly affected, as bars already have orders to close by 1am.
