Denia has today become the city with the highest COVID-19 case load in Spain’s Valencian Community.
Case load is calculated by the number of COVID-19 active cases per 100,000 people – Denia’s 107 new positives over the last two weeks give it a case load of 253.76.
It is the highest case load for any city over 40,000 population, and well above the Valencian Community’s three provincial capitals:
This is largely due to Denia having a much smaller population than the three cities above.
While Denia has recorded 107 cases in the last 14 days:
The change comes after the regional health department last night announced 66 new infections in the Marina Alta comarca, administered by Denia’s Marina Salud health department, since Friday.
New cases since Friday:
Denia’s Marina Salud hospital announced on Monday that 12 people are hospitalised with COVID-19 on their 3A wing.
Regional health departments do not provide information on when patients began treatment, but of the Marina Alta’s 161 new cases over the last two weeks 12 patients hospitalised 7.5%.
It is likely these patients have been hospitalised for more than 14 days.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, statistics show that 0.32% of all Spain’s 405,436 cases have needed treatment in hospital.
The announcement yesterday recorded 3 deaths in a 24-hour period between Sunday and Monday.
