On December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as International Yoga Day, a longstanding physical, mental, and spiritual practice with its origins in India, based on the union of body and mind. The celebration of this day aims to raise awareness about its benefits and has gained an increasing number of followers worldwide. But did you know that there are several ways to practice it? Let us tell you about a few.
Bikram Yoga – The technique consists of a combination of postures that promote a healthy body along with inner peace and personal happiness. It is practiced at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) and a humidity level of 40-50%. That’s why it is also known as Hot Yoga or Heat Yoga, reflecting the requirement to practice at such a high temperature.
SUP Yoga – It involves the combination of two disciplines, Stand Up Paddle Surfing and Yoga, practiced on a paddle board over a water surface. It could be considered more as a sport than a spiritual experience, but it maintains the principle of physical benefits as a consequence of the practice.
Beer Yoga – It combines the philosophy of traditional yoga with the pleasure of drinking beer. This practice blends the contributions of both elements to achieve a double benefit. It is performed with a glass or bottle of beer that is consumed while carrying out the exercises.
Nudist Yoga – It is based on a form of relaxing the body and mind through pure naturalness, nudity. It achieves a great sense of liberation, with even the shyest individuals practicing it at home. However, an increasing number of people are practicing it in groups, as they become one with a unified essence.
Bernice Mary Bates She achieved the Guinness World Record for being the oldest yoga teacher at 91 years old, which was a very rewarding experience for her in her life. It is proof that there is no age or excuses to practice and enjoy yoga.
