Stadiums open for football and basketball

THE Spanish government is allowing football and basketball supporters to return to stadiums when the new season begins after the summer.
The move will help improve clubs’ financial situation after teams played behind closed doors because of the coronavirus restrictions.

A decision was taken at a special meeting of the Cabinet in Madrid; the resulting decree involved a number of Covid-19 measures included lifting the compulsory wearing of face masks outdoors when it was possible to social distance.

In May up to 5,000 fans were allowed back to key matches and La Liga also opened stadiums for the final days of the season with crowds allowed up to 30% of capacity.
