First arrival expected on April 10

VALENCIA Port Authority expects its first container ship to navigate the Suez Canal after the logjam caused by the Ever Green saga to dock on April 10.

The giant cargo vessel caused an international trade crisis – and a bottleneck of over 300 ships – when it blocked the canal last month but was finally freed three days ago.

The port authority said the container terminals and shipping companies were preparing for a flood of some extra 25,000 containers entering and leaving the Spanish port as navigation through the Suez area resumes – on top of the 15,000 it manages on a daily basis.

Empty containers at Valencia are being cleared from terminal yards to give warehouses and storage area enough space for unloading and loading.
